Sad News

As I’m sure you all know, I wasn’t planning to do another post. Well something happened recently that made me want to do one more important short post. Well, it’s important to me anyway.

On August 29, 2010 something awful occurred at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Peter Lenz, a 13 year-old Champion motorcycle racer, was tragically killed in an accident on the track.  By all accounts Peter was a wonderful kid and amazingly talented racer as well. He reminded many of some of the most accomplished motorcycle racers in recent memory. Now people are coming out of the woodwork spouting that 13 is too young to be racing like Peter was. They’re preaching that it’s too dangerous and the kids don’t understand the potential consequences of doing something so dangerous. Based on my own personal experiences, I think these kids know better than anyone what they are getting themselves into. People rarely, if ever, give kids enough credit. They understand more about life than many adults ever will. I do agree that in some cases parents will push and push their children in a direction they do not want to go in. But those are much less numerous than the public is led to believe. Where were these people 2 months ago? Apparently then 13 was old enough to ride. Frickin’ hypocrites.

I would like to celebrate Peter’s 13 years. He was able to do what he loved doing, and was great at it. Not many of us will ever be able to say that. It’s just a shame he won’t be able to do it any longer where we can watch and cheer him on. To me the best part of watching someone like Peter race is seeing the smile when the helmet comes off. Now I didn’t know Peter, but I will miss him just the same. The podiums and trophies will quickly fade away, but Peter’s memory will last forever. Keep racing Peter!!!

The End Brings a New Beginning

When I restarted this after the Great Nibble Nuking of ‘09, I had intended to make it a bit more diverse in its postings. I had promised to do some book reviews and share some original poetry or other writings or quotations. Unfortunately that didn’t last too long. I did share some poetry and did a couple book reviews, but I didn’t accomplish my initial objective. So I have decided to review one book that I finally found the time to read. I had been wanting to read it for some time. About six weeks ago I found it at an amazingly affordable price, so I made it mine. And about a week and a half ago I got around to reading it. The book is called:

ISBN 978-0-525-47996-3

I will try not to spoil anything for you, so I will mostly stay in generalities. The main character, Bobby Framingham, is an extremely talented high school quarterback who may even have the opportunity to play major college football. Bobby is no ordinary quarterback. He has a secret he has been able to keep from his family, friends, teammates and community. He is gay. This is a coming out story of sorts, but it is much more complex than that. He wonders if he were out to the world, who if anyone would be there by his side. His fears bring him to the conclusion that he is just not ready for that step. There is someone who essentially makes that decision for him. Bobby Framingham has essentially been chased out of the pocket. What happens next is pure improvisation on Bobby’s part. Aren’t you the least bit curious?

I have experience with football as both as a player and a coach. I could relate to the story on so many levels. While I was not a star player, I wrestled with being gay in a locker room full of testosterone and homophobia. Oh did I mention all the cute bums? Seriously though, the feelings Bobby has about his secret are the same as mine were. In my case there was an interesting twist after I became a coach. I guess you could say I came out to several of my players. It’s a strange story, but an interesting one. But this is about a book and not me, so lets get things back on track. The characters and the story felt real and believable. The story flowed well making it seem like you were almost watching a movie and not reading a book. You don’t have to be a football fan to get into this book. It’s not overly complicated with all kinds of football jargon. In it’s purest sense, the book is about a high profile high school athlete coming out and what he has to deal with every day as a result. You’ll just have to read and see exactly how Bobby handles his “new life”.

It’s Not Goodbye…Well Yeah it Actually Is

Yes you read the title to this post correctly. I have decided to take a permanent break from blogging. There just isn’t a place for it in my life any longer. I have been contemplating this decision for some time, and I just feel it is the right time for me. I hope everyone has enjoyed the blog and appreciated the time and effort I have put into it. When I decided to start a blog, I did not want it to be a run of the mill boy blog. I have always held myself to a higher standard. I took great pains to make sure I gave everyone the utmost quality for each and every post. Over the course of time I literally visited hundreds of blogs and websites to find pics that were unique or rarely seen in a boy blog setting. According to some visitors to my blog, they had never seen some of the pics I posted. One thing I was very meticulous about was in not repeating pics. I think the number I repeated was quite minuscule compared to most other blogs I have seen. I took pride in that. I also took pride in coming up with many different themes for my posts. I do admit that had become harder and harder to do with each post. Most of all, I pride myself in posting pics that are tasteful and respectful to the boys themselves. They deserve that much.

I want to thank all of my followers, visitors and friends who have helped make the blog more successful than I ever could possibly have imagined. Nearly 1.3 million visits and 321 followers is just mind boggling to me. I hope everyone has enjoyed the blog and maybe even inspired someone to give it a try themselves. If someone decides to start a pic blog, I have a few pieces of advice: 1) Organizing of your pics-whether you have themes or not, knowing the pics you have and where to find them can eliminate many future headaches for you.  2) Stick to a schedule-I started trying to post everyday and that grew stressful. I tried to switch to a more reasonable every 3 days schedule and it worked better. In switching I decided to put more pics (12-15) in each post.  3) Know the types of pics you can and cannot post-the only issue anyone had with any of my pics was just recently. I was asked to remove my header pic because it was under copyright. There was never a complaint about any pic in any post from start to finish. Being irresponsible with your postings makes ALL of us look bad.  4)  Look for out of the way places to find pics-quite often pics at these places do not have copyrights. Finding these place takes a lot of looking and persistence.  5)  Take pride in what you’re doing-If you’re not committed to making the best blog possible, you should stick to just following or visiting other blogs. Plus here’s something that goes right along with that. I always hand picked each and every pic for each post. I made sure that the pics and the subjects in the pics were of the highest “quality”. I hope that helps anyone interested in starting and developing a high quality blog.

After my final post (still to come), I will leave the blog up for an undetermined amount of time. I will let you know how long that may be. When that time is up, I will be deleting the blog altogether. I will be turning the page and not looking back. Again thank you everyone for your encouragement, support and kind words over the months. It has all been greatly appreciated.

I Scream, You Scream, We ALL Scream…..

Apologies for taking so long to get back to you with another post. The World Cup and all those soccer boys just wore me out!  I don’t know about where you live, but here it’s just been scorching almost every day. We all scramble to get inside and if we really HAVE to be outside, we search for something cold and refreshing. Not much else fits that bill than ICE CREAM! Well frozen custard, sherbet and popsicles are right there as well. This post is all about cold refreshing summer treats. I’ve partaken in the McDonald’s 49 cent vanilla cone deal like 10 times already. Damn this weather!

In the End

It’s over, done, finished, completed, decided etc……and Spain it is!  Now I have to admit that much of Hollywood can use an acting coach as good as the one the Spaniards hired. It’s amazing that someone can get a yellow card for NOT touching the opposing player. And that wasn’t the only display of acting worthy of an Oscar or Emmy.  Anyway it was a long and interesting journey from beginning to end. There was some great play mixed in with cheats and poor officiating, but in the end it was another successful World Cup. And at the end of any great soccer tournament comes…….

THE CELEBRATION!!!!

Well Here We Are

It’s all come down to this. Spain vs. Netherlands. Winner take all. Honestly I have very little attachment to either team. I have some friends who are partial to the Netherlands, so I think I’ll lean slightly in that direction. As it is, I still wish both squads good luck. Now the 3rd place match is another story. I hope Germany wipes the field with Uruguay. With the horrid sportsmanship shown by one of it’s players,Uruguay does not deserve to be on the pitch against Germany. Ghana deserved better. The fans in Africa and around the world deserved better. The best I can hope for now is for the Germans to just embarrass Uruguay. I know for sure that is something I will be rooting for.

Winding Down

I just want to send out condolences to a very good friend of mine. My friend Nate’s mother just recently passed away. I doubt any of you know my friend, but losing a parent, especially at a young age, is something no one ever wants to experience. I love ya Nate!!!
